Studying in Cyprus is prestigious and promising for several reasons. Firstly, no entrance tests to apply to universities , especially in the northern Turkish part of the island. Secondly, the mild climate of the country makes it possible to reduce the cost of renting housing and purchasing warm clothes. Thirdly, Cyprus has branches of universities from other European countries. Studying at a branch on the island is cheaper than studying at a university on the mainland. And fourthly, upon graduation from the Cyprus University, a European diploma is obtained.
There is no narrow specialization in universities. A number of professional areas are missing.
90% of the country's population speaks English. Many university majors are taught in English.
The cost of education is 1,000 – 8,000 euros per year (bachelor's degree) and 9,000 – 10,000 euros per year (Master's degree).
And it is also important to know that students are allowed combine study and work.
Cyprus has a small number of its own higher education institutions. But besides Cypriot universities, there are branches of universities from other countries. For example, in Cyprus it is relatively inexpensive to study at a branch of a British university, cheaper than in the UK itself.
The education system in Cyprus can be of two types – Bologna or American.
In the southern Greek part of Cyprus, the Bologna system is recognized – the division into bachelor's degree (4 years), master's degree (2 years), doctoral degree (3 years).
There are more study options in the northern Turkish part of the island. There are associate's degrees, technical degrees, bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees without a thesis, Master's degrees with a thesis, and doctorates.
A foreign student has the right to apply the University of Cyprus without exams. This rule is tacitly enforced at universities in the northern part of the island.
You can be admitted to the University in Cyprus immediately after graduation from Russia, Kazakhstan, and the CIS countries. This opportunity is often used as an intermediate stage for studying in other European countries. For example, you need 13 years of secondary education to enter a German university. Kazakhstani students need to study for 1-2 years at a university in their homeland in order to enroll in a German university.
With this approach, you can replace 1-2 years of study at a CIS university with 1-2 years of study in Cyprus.
The only main requirement for a foreign student is an excellent knowledge of the language. An international English proficiency certificate of at least B is required (IELTS or TOEFL language exam).
