Location

The main buildings of the university form a single urban campus, located five minutes' walk from the center of Liverpool on the hills of Brownlow Hill and Mount Pleasant. The total area of the campus is more than 40 hectares and includes 192 buildings, including 69 lecture halls, 114 classrooms and modern research centers.

There is also a large sports center on the campus.

The central building is the historic red brick Victoria Building. Opened in 1892, it now functions as a university museum and gallery.

The campus is divided into three sectors, which are occupied by the Faculties of Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mechanical Engineering. The Lichurst Veterinary Training Clinic and the Ness Botanic Gardens are located on the Wirral Peninsula.

 

Description

The University of Liverpool is one of six historic "red brick" universities, a founding member of the Russell Group (an association of 20 major universities engaged in scientific activities) and one of the leading research centers in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1881, it ranks 123rd in the world (QS, 2011), and 90% of its graduates are employed in their specialty within six months of graduation.

The University is known for its high level of teaching in mechanical engineering, medicine, dentistry, business and law.

 

Notable alumni

Among the graduates of the university are Clive Barker (science fiction writer, screenwriter and visual artist), Dauda Kairaba Jawara (the first president and Prime Minister of the Gambia), Wade Barrett (wrestler, WWE intercontinental champion).

In addition, there are 8 Nobel Prize laureates among the graduates and researchers of the university.
